Stewart and Implementation Team Honored at Annual CLIC Luncheon

Library Staff at CLIC Awards Luncheon.
Eighty-eight staff from member libraries attended CLIC's 2014 Awards Luncheon at Northwestern on December 3. Our featured luncheon speaker was Sarah Bellamy who gave an inspirational and entertaining presentation on Penumbra Theatre Company's Summer Institute.
Luncheon speaker Sarah Bellamy of Penumbra Theatre Company.
David Stewart of Bethel University received the CLIC User Service Award for his professionalism and leadership throughout a momentous year for CLIC. As the CLIC Board President in 2013-14, David guided the board through discussions on the vendor RFP and selection process for a new shared library management system.  Throughout the process, David was a thoughtful and exemplary statesman on behalf of CLIC and is well-deserving of recognition for his work.

The winner of this year's CLIC Group Effectiveness Award is the Implementation Team, including Mike Bloomberg, Rhonda Gilbraith, Greg Argo, Jon Neilson, Amy Shaw, Nate Farley, Dani Roach, and Steve Waage.  The amount of time and energy the Implementation Team has given, the persistence and patience they've shown, and their ongoing commitment are just a few of the reasons they were chosen for this recognition. The Implementation Team has been working steadily and diligently since January 2014 to implement the phases of Summon and Intota.  Their dedication to staying on top of issues has been impressive, even when the implementation workload seems daunting.

Implementation Team Update, April 21, 2014

The Implementation Team has been meeting twice a month with Ashley DeHaye, CLIC’s  ProQuest Implementation Manager. Starting with today’s meeting, we will post progress reports from our meetings on clic-announce and on the CLIC Blog, with a link from CLIC’s Facebook page.

MAPPING AND TESTING SUMMON: CLIC’s Implementation Team has been hard at work for the past three months setting up our Summon 2.0 instances and working with the Mapping Task Force to customize our mapping to meet CLIC library needs.  We are in the process of testing the latest ingestion, and we expect at least one more ingestion before going live with Summon 2.0 on June 1, 2014. [Note: UST’s date may vary.]

OPTIMIZING SUMMON: The Implementation Team is working with ProQuest trainers to learn more about optimizing Summon for our libraries’ needs. Some of the areas under investigation are LibGuides, Recommended Databases, and the WorldCat API.

TRAINING: The Implementation Team also coordinated Summon training in February, March, and April.  If you missed any of the sessions, the training webinars were recorded and will be available for three months. Please check with the CLIC Office or with your Implementation Team representative for log-in information to view archived events.

CLIC Selects ProQuest Intota Library Services Platform as its Next Shared System

Consortium prepares to transform for the changing landscape in higher education

SEATTLE, WA, March 6, 2014 – Cooperating Libraries in Consortium (CLIC) of St. Paul, Minnesota, is the first academic library consortium to subscribe to ProQuest’s cloud-based library services platform, Intota™. The CLIC libraries will be taking full advantage of the transformative nature of the Intota library services platform, implementing in phases beginning with the Summon discovery service this spring. During 2014 they also plan to implement Intota for assessment and for e-resource management, with other components to follow.

“We are thrilled to be on the cutting edge with ProQuest’s new technology,” said Ruth Dukelow, executive director, CLIC. “Our libraries will be able to leverage the sizeable investments they have made in print and electronic collections, audio and visual content, and institutional documents by making these resources readily discoverable and accessible to our users through Intota’s integrated management and discovery tools.”

Trends in library usage and collections, and in higher education overall, point to a need for more innovative solutions that will re-invent and surpass, not just match, traditional systems. Intota is a library services platform with services designed to address the real needs of today’s libraries and help them transform how they manage increasingly digital collections and how their users discover those collections and interface with the library. With Intota, ProQuest is focused not on just replacing the status quo, but on transformation by addressing the needs for the future. It’s a platform built for workflows of tomorrow that addresses libraries biggest needs today.

According to the Director of University Libraries at Bethel University and CLIC Board President, David Stewart, “When our libraries began the process of selecting a next-generation system, we focused on finding a solution that would provide the maximum benefit to our users. After a thorough investigation of the available options, our Board concluded that ProQuest’s discovery and management services best matched CLIC’s requirements for outstanding and innovative solutions to serve our communities.”

CLIC member libraries subscribing to the services include: Augsburg College, Bethel University, Concordia University, Hamline University, St. Catherine University, University of Northwestern-St. Paul, and University of St. Thomas.
